چکیده

The importance of integrating different disciplines of information science and technology is growing for the realization of an information system which works robustly in the real world. Such a system should be achieved by integrating different disciplines, since it is difficult to cover all areas in information science and technology by only one person or group. In order to support collaboration, the autonomous collaborative environment for projectbased learning was developed. The environment comprises the workshop ‘‘A Hundred Hour Workshop’’ and the community site ‘‘WS100H.NET’’. Novel interdisciplinary technology, fusion of recognition and parallel computation was successfully developed whose collaboration process was autonomous. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Development of a Flying Eye: A Project-Based Learning Experience

The paper describes the design for manufacturability of a prototype product as part of a manufacturing engineering capstone course. The product chosen was a vertically launched unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)—the “Flying Eye.” The Flying Eye is an autonomous parafoil surveillance platform quipped with sensors, controllers, mechanical components, and software. Once the autonomous UAV is deployed, ...

The MINERVAMinerva is the Roman goddess of science, wisdom, and learning. Project: Towards Collaborative Search in Digital Libraries Using Peer-to-Peer Technology

We consider the problem of collaborative search across a large number of digital libraries and query routing strategies in a peerto-peer (P2P) environment. Both digital libraries and users are equally viewed as peers and, thus, as part of the P2P network. Our system provides a versatile platform for a scalable search engine combining local index structures of autonomous peers with a global dire...

Using the interactive whiteboard to scaffold pupils’ learning of science in collaborative group activity

Interactive whiteboards (IWBs) are usually used by teachers for whole-class teaching. This paper is based upon an ESRC-funded project in which pupils used the IWB in a semi-autonomous manner when working together on science-related activities designed by the teacher. Using an analysis of video and other data from lessons in UK Year 4 and Year 5 primary classrooms (pupils aged 8-10 years), it fo...
